Every Kid Sports (EKS) provides youth sports grants to kids from income-restricted families. With the financial support received from individual donors, corporate partnerships, and foundations, EKS is able to be the go-to resource for low-income families to get their kids in the game.

Understanding The Need

When EKS came to us they had issues due to a costly process, that had no visibility and wasn't scalable leading to a long application window and leaving most families waiting to receive funds and some getting the funds to late.

The Challenge

  • Sending physical checks for registration payment to leagues/families was time consuming, costly, and not scalable.
  • No visibility into the spending to confirm that the kid registered for the sport.
  • It took three weeks from application approval to the league/family’s receipt of the funds.
  • Lost and/or unused physical checks and additional incurred costs for stop payment and reissuing of checks.
  • A long lag time between grant approval and families’ receipt of funds.
  • Recipients could not use the funds to make a payment via a digital platform.
  • Difficult to establish whether funds are spent as intended.
  • Refunds would be issued back to the recipients rather than Every Kid Sports

Our Solution

  • EKS grantees receive virtual Chek cards accessed via Chek mobile app or online portal.
  • The cards can be used online or added to a mobile device wallet for in-person “tap & pay”.
  • Less than 24 hours from application approval to receipt of funds.
  • Funds are controlled by merchant (i.e. league) to confirm the registration for the sport and deliver on donor intent.
  • Access to the Chek Admin portal to manage program, have end-to-end visibility of funds & more.

The Impact So Far

In the first 10 years of their operations, EKS helped a total of 18,000 kids play sports. Since utilizing Chek they have helped over 100,000 kids – 82,000 kids within 2 years! During their most recent 2023 Spring Pass Grant season they received a record 32,000 applications.
